‘Stay and Read’ Parent Active Workshop

‘Stay and Read’ Parent Active Workshop - Stay and Read - Parent Active Workshop

This term we have been delighted to welcome our Year 1 parents to join us on campus once again. This time the event was to share how they can support their child at home with shared and individual reading. Parents were invited to spend some time in their child’s class where their class teacher modelled and shared tips on successful reading at home.

‘Stay and Read’ Parent Active Workshop - Stay and Read - Parent Active Workshop

  • Creating a Reading-Friendly Home: Tips on setting up a cosy reading nook, making books easily accessible, and limiting screen time to prioritise reading.
  • Choosing the Right Books: Guidance on selecting age-appropriate and engaging books that cater to children's interests. Resources like recommended reading lists and online book reviews were shared.
  • Making Reading Fun: Interactive strategies for making reading an enjoyable experience, such as reading aloud together, using different voices for characters, and visiting the library regularly.
  • Building Comprehension: Techniques for discussing books with children, asking open-ended questions, and encouraging them to make connections to their own lives.

Parents actively participated in the workshop, sharing their own experiences and asking questions. Many expressed a renewed enthusiasm for incorporating reading into their family bedtime routines.

The event was a resounding success, highlighting the importance of ongoing collaboration between parents and educators in nurturing a love of reading in children. We look forward to hosting a similar event for our Reception and Year 2 parents soon. Thank you to all our parents who were able to join us in this event.
