Senior Prefects announced and ready to get to work!

Prefect Tie Ceremony

On Wednesday 02 October in the Marble Arch playground, Higher Phase students witnessed the annual Tie Presentation to announce our new Senior Prefects for the 2024/25 academic year. We were delighted to host our founder and director Madam Vera Al Mutawa MBE to present the ties and badges to the newly selected prefects from Year 12 and 13.

The senior prefects will lead the team of prefects selected from all of the secondary year groups in the wide range of activities falling under the categories of the committees and school houses.

The four committees are: Academic, Social Impact, Health & Wellbeing and Media & Events. These committees ensure that the work of the prefects is shared amongst students who have a skill set and interest that relate specifically to their work. The presentation was followed by group photos to commemorate the event and then Madam Vera hosted a breakfast for the senior prefects in her office in Clarence House. The breakfast was a wonderful way for the senior prefects to introduce themselves to Madam Vera and to socialise together on this special day. The breakfast lasted for the first lesson of the day and then students returned to the main campus in time for lesson two.

At The British School of Kuwait we place great emphasis upon the importance of students developing their leadership skills during their time at the school. Doing so benefits both the individual (in terms of them developing their own skills and abilities) as well as the wider school community through the good work they do.

We have tremendous confidence in the abilities of our most senior students, and for that reason we offer positions of responsibility to a large number of them. The Student Leadership Coordinator, Mr Andrew, will work closely with our new team of Senior Prefects. He will also ensure that the Deputy Heads oversee their respective committees to make progress in their designated areas.

The senior prefect team will spend the last two weeks of Term 1 selecting the prefects from Years 6-11 through an application form. At the start of Term 2 they will assemble in their various teams to begin the important committee work, plan for events and support the school.

We congratulate each and every one of them and wish them all the best with their work this year!
