Alumni News Find out what Old Britainnians have achieved lately. graduates hero

Our Old Britainnians go on to achieve wonderful things. Here are some highlights.

Rashed Chowdhury, who graduated in 1999, has been awarded a PhD in History at McGill University. He is currently working as a postdoctoral fellow at the Indian Ocean World Centre at McGill. He and his wife Katie had a son named Ibrahim in 2011.

Samuel Labib, who graduated in 2000, is working as a general dental practitioner in Bristol and is currently studying for a diploma in implantology. He married Joanne, a general medical practitioner, in Cornwall on 14 May 2011. Samuel sent us a lovely message in which he said: “BSK is the reason I've managed to forge a life in the UK and I owe all the members of staff who made me the man I am today.”

Noura Fayyad, who was Head Girl in 2001-02, received a Bachelor of Pharmacy degree from Cairo University in 2007, has returned to Kuwait and is working as a Product Specialist at Swiss pharmaceutical company Novartis. She got married to Amr Moneeb in July 2011.

2002 graduate Ali Saad graduated in Film Studies and Theatre & Performance studies from The University of New South Wales in 2010. A show that he wrote, produced and directed aired recently on a cable channel in Sydney, Australia. Ali runs his own production company, Moviefreak Entertainment, and works as International Development Coordinator at The University of Wollongong.

2002-03 Head Boy Mehdi Abdelhak has been promoted to work as a Business Development Executive at IBM. Mehdi obtained an MEng in Systems Engineering from Loughborough University in 2008. He graduated from IBM’s renowned Global Sales School in September 2011.

2003 graduate Yasmine Zikry, having gained a BSc in Pharmaceutical and Biotechnological Sciences from the German University in Cairo, worked as a medical representative with AstraZeneca and taken gap year to travel and undertake volunteer work in Malaysia and Egypt, is now working towards a Masters degree in Biotechnology at the American University in Cairo.

Ahmed Weheda, who graduated from BSK in 2003, studied in the Faculty of Dentistry at Alexandria University, graduating in 2008 ranked within the top ten in his class. He then completed an MSc and is working as an Assistant Lecturer in the Faculty. Ahmed says that he loves teaching and is inspired by his teachers from BSK. Ahmed is now married with two lovely boys, whom he says he wishes could attend BSK one day.

2003 graduate Aya Al-Orbani graduated from the Faculty of Medicine at Cairo University in the top ten of her cohort. She is currently a Dermatology Resident in the Cairo University hospital and is working on her masters degree. Aya is married and has a beautiful baby girl. She told us: “I owe BSK everything; it truely shaped who I am today. I hope my daughter gets the chance to get as great a school experience as I had. Maybe you'll see her in BSK soon, who knows? Thank you for everything.”

Areeg Al-Shaarawy, who completed her A Levels at BSK in 2004, has successfully graduated from Cairo University School of Medicine and is currently a resident and working on her Masters degree in the field of Neuropsychiatry. Areeg sent us a very touching message, saying: “Thank you for teaching us HOW to think, not WHAT to think,” and “I owe this school everything and will always be a proud graduate of it.”

2005 graduate Omar Fayyad has gained a BSc in Business Administration from the British University in Egypt, is working in the Purchasing Department in Al-Sager Company and is also a DJ and electronic music producer. His debut EP, “Distance is a Killer”, has been released through Underground Noise Records.

Mina Kheir (2005 BSK graduate) has been awarded a Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery (MB BCh) from Sohag University and also owns and manages Sohag Marble and Terrazzo Tiles Company. Mina told us: “I owe all my success in life and all that I am now to BSK.”

Fahad Benthani, who was a BSK student from 1993 until 2005, joined RMIT University in Melbourne, Australia and completed an Honours degree in Laboratory Medicine in 2010. He then moved to the UK and joined the UCL Cancer Institute, part of University College London, completing an MSc in Cancer Research in 2012. Fahad has now returned to Australia, enrolled in a PhD in Medicine at The University of New South Wales St Vincent's Clinical School, and is doing research in colorectal cancer in the new Kinghorn Cancer Centre. Fahad is in receipt of a prestigious scholarship to complete his PhD and told us: “This is no small part due to the quality of education I received over the many years I was a BSK student.”

2006 BSK graduate Ashish Puri completed a Bachelor of Civil Engineering degree at Georgia Institute of Technology in 2011 and is currently working as a Project Engineer at Turner Construction in San Francisco. Ashish visited to BSK in November 2013 to see how the school has developed and to catch up with some of his teachers.

Solomon da Cunha, who graduated in 2006, was awarded a Bachelors in Engineering (Aerospace Engineering) from the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology, Australia in December 2010. He completed a Masters degree in Astronautics and Space Engineering at Cranfield University, UK in June 2013.

2006 BSK graduate Ashish Puri gained a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering (with a minor in business entrepreneurship) from Georgia Institute of Technology in May 2011. Ashish is a Project Engineer with Turner Construction in Northern California.

Hussnain Raza, who left BSK in 2006, has completed a bachelor degree in Chemical Engineering from the University of Sydney, graduating in May 2011. Hussnain is working with Orica in Newcastle, Australia as a Graduate Chemical Engineer.

2007 BSK graduate Nikita Kohli has been awarded a BA in Hospitality Management and Marketing from Glion Insitute of Higher Education in Switzerland. She is currently working as Marketing Manager for Al-Sabah and Kohli in Kuwait.

Abdel Rahman Morsi, who graduated from BSK in 2007, obtained a bachelors degree in Nanotechnology Engineering in 2012 and a masters degree in Chemical Engineering in 2014, both from the University of Waterloo. He married in 2013 and his wife gave birth to a girl, Ayah, in October 2014. Abdel Rahman  is working as a Chemical Engineer at W2 Energy Inc.

2007 graduate Maria-Augusta da Cunha earned a degree in Primary Education from Griffith University in Brisbane, Australia in 2012, specialising in music education. She then completed a Master of Education (MEd) degree, with a main focus on Early Childhood Education. She is now working as an Early Childhood Teacher. Maria-Augusta told us that she regards it as an honour to be able to say that she went to BSK when she meets fellow students from Kuwait in Australia.

Sneha Kumar, who graduated from Year 13 in 2007, completed a BSc in Economics and Economic History in 2010 and then an MSc in 2011, both from London School of Economics and Political Science. She is currently a PhD candidate in Demography at Cornell University, USA.

Richa Kohli, who also left BSK in 2007, completed a Bachelor of Business Administration in Event, Sport and Entertainment Management at Glion Insitute of Higher Education in Switzerland in June 2009. Richa got married in December 2009.

2007 graduate Tanya Sassi completed a BA(Hons) in Popular Music at Manchester Metropolitan University in 2011, and was accepted onto a Masters course in Music Management and Artist Development at the University of West London. Tanya tells us that she’s “missing BSK lots!”

Nevena Karapavlovic, who left BSK in 2008, graduated with a first-class BSc(Hons) in Biomedical Sciences from Newcastle University in July 2013. On the basis of her final year dissertation, which investigated deletions within mitochondrial DNA of naked mole rat muscle, Nevena was nominated by the university for the 2013 Science, Engineering and Technology (SET) Student of the Year Awards. Nevena went on to become a finalist and was announced as one of the top three Biology Students in the UK. Further reading: SET Award finalistsreport on Society of Biology website.

Mouminatou Mbacké, who graduated from Year 13 in 2009 and then joined the University of Ottawa, has made the Dean's Honour List and has been awarded a Merit Scholarship on the basis of her performance in the 2010-11 examinations. Moumy told us: “My hard work at BSK is clearly paying off!”

2009 graduate Jin Myoung Lee won the 2013 Class of 1846 Latin Award at Dartmouth College, USA.

Shumez Khan, who graduated from BSK in 2010 and is majoring in Business at the University of Toronto, is also a Residence Block Mentor.

2010 graduate Khaled Tebe, who is studying International Business at the University of Edinburgh, completed a year abroad at Korea University Business School during 2012-13. Having learned to read and speak Korean, he has now returned to Scotland to complete the final year of his degree.

Malcolm Dias, who graduated in 2011 and who holds the BSK sports records for 200 metres, 400 metres and long jump, is majoring in Sports Management at Indiana Wesleyan University, and is the recipient of a track and field scholarship. Malcolm is also a Freshman mentor and a dorm desk worker.

2012 graduate Alessia Saager undertook internship work during 2012-13 and then received five unconditional offers as a result of her UCAS applications. Alessia accepted an offer from Robert Gordon University to read International Business Management.

In January 2018, BSK 2014 graduate Mohammed Abu Rouss was elected as President of the Student Council at Telfer School of Management at the University of Ottawa.
