Healthy Week At BSK

Last week, students from Year 3 at the British School of Kuwait (BSK) immersed themselves into their learning, by coming to school dressed as their favourite fruit or vegetable; this was part of their Science topic ‘Being Healthy’.

Throughout the week students participated in a wide variety of practical learning activities. The teachers and students brought in different types of healthy food and held food tasting sessions where the students tried some delicious new fruits and vegetables. The students were also given an opportunity to make fresh fruit kebabs and fruit cocktails.

Each morning the children started the day with a ‘Wake and Shake’ session, this included dancing and aerobics before the school day had even started. The class teachers led this early morning workout and the children thoroughly enjoyed the opportunity to shake off the ‘cobwebs’ ready for a day of learning.

Throughout the week students were also able to join in with a variety of exercise sessions, such as circuit training, aerobics, meditation and daily fitness competitions which included running, skipping and star jumps. All these activities were used to enhance the curriculum and were planned to help the students understand how to live a healthy lifestyle, outside of school.

Miss Sadie, Head of Year 3, remarked “It was a fantastic week and a great way to end the Science topic. All students and teachers really enjoyed healthy week and it has inspired a love of learning and raised high expectations for the rest of the term”.
